Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy

For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
                                                                                                                                          Exodus 20:11

This past Sunday we talked about "Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy" doing this is not merely a suggestion, but it is a commandment.   It was so important that the Lord included it as part of the 10 commandments.  The children offered several ways that we can keep the sabbath day holy such as: visiting someone ill, reading scriptures, reading the friend, playing church games on lds.org, dressing appropriate to be reverent on the sabbath day.
They also mentioned several things they should not do.  Such as: going to the store, playing sports, screaming, fighting and watching TV.
By keeping this commandment we are showing our obedience to the Lord and most importantly that we LOVE him and are willing to sacrifice the worldly things to honor his commandments.

I should do things on the Sabbath that will help me stay close to Heavenly Father.

August 19, 2012

In Sharing Time on Sunday, the children learned about keeping the Sabbath Day holy.  It began with the scriptural account of the Israelite children and the food from Heaven, Manna, the Lord sent to them each morning.  On the sixth day they were blessed with twice as much Manna so they could gather it and prepare ahead of time for the Sabbath Day.

The senior primary children also memorized the scripture, Exodus 20:8 which reads

"Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy."

The best way to help individuals and families keep the Sabbath holy is to PREPARE.  Primary children were given the opportunity to choose items from a box.  The items represented ways or things that could be done on the Sabbath, or things that might be better to do on other days of the week, and to help them prepare for Sunday.  Each child was able to choose which day to place their item.  The primary was challenged to think of ways to keep the Sabbath holy and to help their families keep it as well.

I should read, listen and look at things pleasing to Heavenly Father.

Sunday Aug 13, 2012

I brought some common household items such as a Friend Magazine, The Scriptures, a Wii remote, TV remote, a computer mouse, a DVD and CD to illustrate some common things that can be used for good or for bad.  We then discussed the positive and negative ways of using each item in some scenarios that the children can relate to.  They all were able to participate and relate to one another through at least one experience that was shared in the the lesson.

Choosing Good Friends

Last sunday the lesson was taught by Sister. Nau.  The Lesson was on: Having good friends will help me choose the right.  Sister. Nau shared with the children a chart that can be a guide to them on how to choose good friends and also how to be a good friend.  Each child participated and shared what they wanted in a good friend.  Jr. primary knew exactly what they wanted in a good friend.  Someone who is nice, doesn't kick them or hurt them, someone who shares and loves their mom.  Senior primary wanted someone who would not talk bad about them or make fun of them.  They wanted someone who  would love them and their family.

Every answer giving was sincere and meaningful.  Sister. Nau then went through the chart to share with them what they should be looking for in a good friend and how they should be a good friend.
The  diagram should explain what traits they are looking for in a friend.

The children were able to memorize all of the traits and do it without looking at the chart.  Each child had the oppurtunity name the traits.  Following the lesson they were able to watch a short film of a story President Gordon. B Hinckley recalls about two young boys and the example of being a good freind.  The spirit was very strong with the children.  And you could tell they knew exactly what they should look for in a friend.

Please follow up with your child regarding this lesson.  They enjoyed memorizing the parts and being able to share it.  This will also help them look for good friends and become a good friend.  By doing this we become closer to our Savior Jesus Christ and begin to learn his ways.

Welcome to Primary

Welcome to the Orem 8th Primary!   We are so excited to be able to communicate with you and keep you posted on whats going on in our primary.   We will be updating this blog frequently to help you with keeping up on the Primary themes, scripture, lessons, activity days, Cub scouts and Primary activities .  Please check this blog often and allow your children to check this blog.  We will be adding pictures and resources for parents and children to help invite the spirit in your home through F.H.E ideas, lessons and links to games that will help your child learn about Christ, prophets, The friend message and so much more.

The official purpose of Primary is to help parents in teaching their children to learn and live the gospel of Jesus Christ.
the responsibility as parents, church leaders and teachers are to raise these children to stand in holy places through righteousness and through the characteristics and actions of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Please take the time to help build the kingdom of God by helping us reinforce  themes, scriptures and lessons of the primary that have been so thoughtfully planned by teachers in our ward and structured by the general presidency of the church.  If we do this our kids will build their testimony of Jesus Christ.  You are their example they look up to you.  They will learn from you the love you have for the Savior.  We see them each Sunday and see the example you set.

Please help us by staying connected with us through Our blog and facebook.  We are here to help you not just on Sundays but everyday to fight off the adversary and protect our little ones by teaching them the ways of Jesus Christ.
